Holbrook Surgery, Horsham
Trainers: Dr John Heatley and Dr Chris Heath
The Practice
The cost rent surgery building was completed in 1998. Administration and
notes are kept upstairs and the waiting room is therefore calm and peaceful and
enhanced further by French windows onto a sunny courtyard.
There are 11 consulting rooms and 7 doctors, 2 of whom are half time, list
size is currently 12,700 and we plan to shut the list when it reaches 13,000.
The GP registrar has their own room, next to the trainer's consulting room.
The computer system is Vision - which we chose as being one of the best windows
based systems. The practice is now largely note for consultations, but hospital
letters are still retained. The nice thing about Vision is
that anyone with windows experience can pick it up in a couple of hours, and
once competent can then customise it to their liking.
The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Locums have so far not been needed
and a registrar would have plenty of study time.
Each partner has sub-specialised in certain clinical areas:
There is thus plenty of expertise and although the partners run personal
lists there is a lot of cross referral.
Training
Dr. Heatley is the trainer, having been accredited in early 1999.
He tends to work quickly and to time so will have plenty of spare time for
teaching and supervision.
Dr Chris Heath joined Holbrook in April 2001. He has FRCP and was
specialised in paediatrics before becoming a GP in 1985.
In Horsham there is a large community hospital, visited by all the consultants,
and where local GP's have admitting rights. There are geriatrics and psychiatric
inpatient beds.
